Invest in Rest

Ringing phones, appointments, reminders, social calendars or day dreaming about a holiday taken years ago or trying to forget a casual comment made by a friend last week… our mind is busy with a whirlwind of things… every day, all day! ‘The human brain is the best blessing of the Creator,’ Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, founder of Transcendental Meditation, once said in a lecture. And, indeed, it is, for the human brain has crafted wonderful inventions: the smartest smartphone, the fastest jet and much more. But how many of us treat it like that, give it the value it deserves? We just slog it away, wanting it to work 24×7… this causes the brain to burn out and lose its potential. Keeping the brain well rested and, thus, alive, creative and capable is imperative to maintain the growing pace of multifaceted progress in human life. Taking a nap, indulging in music or an outing can take our minds off tensions for some time, but can’t provide sufficient rest to our overworked thinker, stressed to the core. There is scientific evidence to prove that the rest that we get in 20 minutes of Transcendental Meditation, for instance, is even deeper than deep sleep. In fact, in Transcendental Meditation, people reportedly experience a unique state of ‘Restful Alertness’ that gives a very profound, deep rest to our brain and physiology as a whole. Transcendental Meditation is a simple and effective meditation technique to calm the mind by giving it rest, gain mental peace, harmonise brain function and get it ready for more action.
