MAHARISHI MAHESH YOGI
His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi has been instrumental in reviving the fundamental knowledge of consciousness as enshrined in the ancient Vedic literature of India in all its aspects across the world. Starting in 1958, 'Maharishi' as he is commonly known, embarked on multiple world tours to teach TM, the basis of experience of consciousness in its totality in all the major continents, which he continued till his last breath in 2008.
Having also brought back the scattered knowledge of 40 aspects of Vedic science, including the Maharishi Vedic approach to health, Maharishi Jyotish (Vedic astrology), and Maharishi Vastu (Vedic architecture); Maharishi has given mankind a comprehensive system of living life in its fullness - providing health, wealth, happiness, success and enlightenment

Effect of Transcendental Meditation on Brain Wave Coherence during practice
Researchers have long known that most experiences, whether sensory or cognitive, engage specific, localized areas of the brain. Studies on brain patterns during TM practice indicate that the technique enlivens coherence over a wide area—creating more efficient coordination of brain activity and stimulating the growth of what scientists propose to be “total brain functioning."
When the brain is more coherent and integrated, all the different parts communicate better, working together better as a whole. This is the basis of improved mental performance—better memory, increased creativity, broader comprehension and sharper focus.
No other meditation technique has consistently produced alpha coherence throughout the brain. Researchers have found that the experience of “transcending” restores neurological balance, inner silence, and clarity of mind. (ref: Cognitive Processing, 2010)
EEG coherence measures the relationship between the EEG activity at two different locations on the scalp; it quantifies the consistency of phase relationship of the two EEG signals at a given frequency. Higher EEG coherence thus indicates greater integration of brain functioning in the measured areas. Research has found that during the practice of the Transcendental Meditation technique, periods of times identified by respiratory changes as periods of Transcendental Consciousness displayed a significant increase in EEG coherence, averaged over all the measured frequencies (1–50 cps) and cortical locations (nine pairs of electrodes)

Everything good about the brain depends on its coherent, orderly functioning. Recent studies in neuroscience have found that world-class athletes have higher EEG coherence than controls, and higher-performing CEOs display greater coherence than other
EEG studies showing brainwave coherence during the practice of the TM technique, along with synchronized alpha power in the frontal cortex, have established the EEG signature for "restful alertness" or "pure consciousness".
With increased EEG coherence everything that is good about the human brain starts to become better, including IQ, creativity, emotional stability, faster reflexes, learning ability etc.
Early components of the brain’s response to somatosensory stimuli are more widely distributed across the cortex, indicating greater participation of the whole brain in the response to a stimulus
Neuroscientists have found that the brain produces high-power alpha waves during TM practice. This distinct brain pattern corresponds to the state of relaxed inner wakefulness—serenity, expansion and bliss. When the alpha waves become synchronous, the brain’s executive judgement seat is strengthened.
AMERICAN COLLEGE OF CARDIOLOGY
The ACC hosted a symposium on the research conducted at more than a dozen independent universities and medical schools on the effects of the TM technique for reducing heart disease, atherosclerosis, hypertension, cholesterol, stroke, and heart failure.
AMERICAN MEDICAL ASSOCIATION
The American Medical Association’s journal Archives of Internal Medicine published a study showing that the Transcendental Meditation technique effectively prevents the risk factors for high blood pressure, diabetes, and obesity.

During its annual conference last year, the American Psychological Association featured research on the TM technique that documents its positive, long-term benefits for self-actualisation and self-development.
